Former Member of Parliament Hon. Mrs. Seyram Betty Krosbi Mensah has announced her intention to contest for the position of National Women Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), subject to the party’s official opening of nominations.
In a statement released on Sunday, Mrs. Mensah said the decision follows months of consultations and nationwide engagements with the grassroots of the party.
“A renewed commitment to serve”
According to her, she has over the past months toured all 16 regions of Ghana, engaging party structures, Members of Parliament, women’s groups, grassroots activists, former women organisers, party elders, constituency and branch executives, and other stakeholders.
“These engagements have been deeply inspiring and have provided me with a clearer understanding of the hope, concerns, aspirations, and expectations of our women and the wider party membership,” she stated.
Mrs. Mensah said her decision is not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to serve. She cited her experience as a former MP, her service as a former Senior Technical Advisor to the Minister of Sports and Recreation, and her years of dedication to the NDC as reasons she can contribute meaningfully to the party’s women’s movement.
Vision for the Women’s Wing
The former MP said the women of the NDC are the backbone of the party and deserve leadership that organises, builds capacity, and creates opportunities.
“The women of the NDC are the backbone of our party. Their sacrifices, resilience, commitment, and loyalty have sustained our movement through difficult moments and great victories,” she said.
Her vision, she noted, is to build “a united, inclusive, and stronger Women’s Wing” that prioritises:
Effective mobilisation of women across all levels
Recognition of the contributions of women in the party
Capacity building and empowerment initiatives
Economic development programs to improve livelihoods
“I believe every woman deserves representation, every voice deserves to be heard, and every contribution deserves recognition,” she added.
Appeal to delegates
Mrs. Mensah said she is humbly seeking the trust, confidence, and support of delegates when nominations are opened.
“I therefore humbly seek the trust, confidence, and support of delegates when the party opens nominations as we work together to build a more vibrant Women’s Wing and a stronger National Democratic Congress,” she stated.
“Together, with unity, dedication, and a shared commitment to service, we can write a new chapter of progress and prosperity for our party and our nation.
“The NDC is yet to officially open nominations for its next internal elections. The position of National Women Organiser is one of the key roles responsible for mobilisation and welfare of women in the party.
