New cocoa bill requires that you can’t sell your cocoa farm without the approval of cocobod – Dr Isaac Opoku
The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs Committee, Dr Isaac Opoku, says provisions in the proposed Cocoa Bill would require cocoa farmers to obtain approval from the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) before selling their cocoa farms.
Speaking on Kessben TV, the Offinso South MP said the bill introduces a requirement that restricts the sale or transfer of cocoa farms without COCOBOD’s approval.
“The new Cocoa Bill indicates that you can’t sell your cocoa farm without the approval of COCOBOD,” Dr Opoku stated.
His comments have sparked discussion over the implications of the proposed legislation, particularly regarding farmers’ property rights and the role of COCOBOD in regulating Ghana’s cocoa sector.
The proposed Cocoa Bill is expected to undergo further parliamentary scrutiny before any final decision is taken on its provisions.
