WAEC Releases 2026 BECE Results; Details Candidates affected by examination malpractice
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.
According to the Council, the results will be sent to schools through the respective Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education. Candidates who wish to check their results online can do so via WAEC’s official website, www.waecgh.org, the statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, said.
Candidate Statistics
A total of 620,243 candidates, made up of 304,415 males and 315,828 females from 20,789 schools, registered for this year’s examination. The figure includes 136 visually impaired candidates, 282 candidates with hearing assessment needs and 510 candidates who required other forms of examination accommodation.
The examination was conducted at 2,237 centres nationwide, with 3,601 registered candidates absent.
Examination Malpractice
WAEC disclosed that following investigations into examination irregularities identified during the conduct of the exams and the marking of scripts, the 37th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee, held on July 21, 2026, approved several sanctions.
The Council cancelled the subject results of 496 candidates and the entire results of 105 candidates. In addition, the subject results of 119 candidates and the entire results of 48 candidates have been withheld pending further investigations.
WAEC also withheld the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools for additional scrutiny. It said these results will either be released or cancelled after investigations are concluded by August 31, 2026.
Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld have been advised to visit the WAEC irregularities portal and select the appropriate option on the homepage to view the reasons for the decision and any further steps required. Heads of schools and proprietors can also use their results listing logins to check the status of affected candidates.
Warning Against Fraud
The Council cautioned candidates and the general public to be vigilant against individuals who claim they can upgrade examination results for a fee. It stressed that WAEC results are secure and can be verified through the Council’s official channels.
WAEC also expressed appreciation to its stakeholders, particularly the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, the security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and everyone who contributed to the successful conduct of the 2026 BECE and the timely release of the results.
