NPP Director of Communications and NPP stalwart Richard Ahiagbah has officially declared his intention to contest the position of National First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, unveiling a 6-point leadership pledge focused on unity, constitutional discipline and preparations for the 2028 general elections.
In his pledge titled “The Undrertaking: My Leadership Pledge”, Ahiagbah says his bid is anchored on strengthening the party’s internal structures and placing members at the center of decision-making.
The 6-Point Pledge
Outlining his commitment to delegates, Ahiagbah pledged to:
1. Support the National Chairman with loyalty and competence
2. Strengthen our constitutional structures and end parallel ones
3. Build unity through discipline and fairness
4. Place members and delegates at the center of party administration
5. Leave behind a stronger party structure and administrative systems
6. Help prepare the New Patriotic Party for victory in 2028
Focus on Unity and Institutional Strength
Ahiagbah emphasized that his leadership will prioritize ending parallel structures within the party and ensuring that the NPP’s constitution is respected at all levels.
“We must build unity through discipline and fairness,” he stated. “A strong party is one where members and delegates feel valued and are placed at the center of party administration.”*
He also stressed the need for administrative reforms that will outlast any single tenure.
“I want to leave behind a stronger party structure and administrative systems that will serve the NPP for generations,” he added.
Eye on 2028
With the 2028 general elections on the horizon, Ahiagbah said his ultimate goal is to help position the NPP for victory.
“This is about more than positions. It is about preparing the New Patriotic Party to win in 2028 and to deliver for Ghanaians,” he noted.
Political observers say the race for National First Vice Chairman will be keenly watched, as the position plays a key role in party organization, discipline and grassroots mobilization ahead of national polls.
Ahiagbah, a Director of Communications for the NPP, is expected to begin nationwide engagements with delegates and stakeholders in the coming weeks.
