Xabi Alonso Hints Chelsea Are Not Done in the Transfer Market as He Reveals Plan for Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has suggested the club’s remarkable summer spending spree is not over yet, hinting that more arrivals could be on the way before the transfer window closes. The Spaniard also revealed he already has a clear tactical plan to get record signing Morgan Rogers and star playmaker Cole Palmer working together in the same starting line-up.
Chelsea Still Active in the Transfer Window
Despite already investing heavily to strengthen the squad, Alonso expects Chelsea to remain active until deadline day. The Blues boss stressed that the club’s recruitment strategy is focused on assembling a team with the ideal combination of technical ability, experience and strong character to challenge for major honours.
Chelsea are reportedly on the verge of completing a £52 million move for Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix. If the deal is finalised, the 26-year-old French centre-back would become the oldest player signed under the club’s current ownership since 2022, signalling a slight shift in recruitment policy.
The Blues are also being linked with Strasbourg full-back Valentin Barco, a move that would further strengthen the squad’s depth ahead of the new campaign.
Speaking about Chelsea’s transfer plans, Alonso said the club is determined to build a balanced squad capable of competing on every front.
“We want a squad with the right balance between quality and mentality. Those things need to match in terms of maturity, but I think we are starting the new season with good energy. That’s important.”
