Forestry Commission offices should be in the Bush, not Adum, If we’re serious about fighting Galamsey – Kwasi Mensah
Kwasi Mensah has called for the Forestry Commission to position its personnel closer to illegal mining (galamsey) hotspots if Ghana is to make meaningful progress in the fight against the practice.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Mensah argued that the Commission should not be operating primarily from offices in Adum but should instead have a stronger presence in forested areas and other locations where illegal mining activities are prevalent. He said such a move would improve monitoring, enforcement, and the protection of the country’s natural resources.
According to Mensah, deploying officials to strategic locations in the bush would enable quicker responses to illegal mining activities and demonstrate a greater commitment to tackling the environmental damage caused by galamsey.
