It Will Be a Disgrace for NPP to Elect Wontumi as National Chairman – Andy Kankam Fire

The Editor of The Informer newspaper, Andy Kankam, has launched a scathing attack on Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, insisting it would be a “disgrace” if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) elects him as its next National Chairman.

In a discussion on the Kessben Maakye show in Accra, Kankam revealed that Wontumi lacks a proper understanding of the party’s constitution and leadership principles, making him unsuitable for the party’s highest executive office.
“It will be a disgrace for the NPP to choose Wontumi as their National Chairman because he has no understanding of the party’s constitution and does not respect the rule of law,” he stated.

He questioned how delegates could reward Wontumi with national leadership after what he described as impunity and indiscipline he has been exhibiting as a regional chairman.

Kankam also backed calls by the party’s General Secretary and National Executives to annul elections in three constituencies in the Ashanti region, arguing that the decision was justified because of reported infractions and violence.

He stressed that election processes within the party must be credible, transparent and fair, and should strictly comply with established national electoral procedures.
The veteran journalist further urged the NPP to demonstrate discipline and uphold democratic values if it hopes to regain public confidence ahead of future elections.

Describing the conduct in the affected constituencies as a serious breach of party discipline, Kankam argued that proceeding with elections despite court injunctions and directives from the party hierarchy amounted to gross indiscipline and should be treated as contempt of court.
