In the small village of Agyapomaa in Ghana’s Eastern Region, where access to basic necessities was once a daily struggle, a young boy began a journey that would one day carry him across continents and into positions of leadership and influence. That boy is Andrews Kwame Perprem, now a development consultant, community leader, and a candidate for the Secretary position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Belgium Chapter.
Born 39 years ago in the Abuakwa South Constituency, Mr. Perprem’s early life was defined by hardship. Raised by his maternal great-grandmother under extremely difficult conditions, he learned the meaning of survival at a very young age. Between the ages of five and twelve, he engaged in farming, foraged for wild kola nuts and mushrooms, and fished to feed himself. He walked barefoot to school, often on an empty stomach, and lacked essential learning materials such as school bags, desks, and chairs.
Yet, even in these circumstances, his academic brilliance was unmistakable. Quiet and reserved, partly due to the stigma of poverty, he consistently ranked first in his class. For him, the classroom became a place of hope and purpose.
A turning point came shortly after his 12th birthday, following the passing of his great-grandmother. He moved to Accra to live with his father, a transition that came with its own challenges. Despite his academic ability, he was placed two classes behind his level. Undeterred, Mr. Perprem applied himself with remarkable discipline. Within months, he adapted, improved significantly in English and mathematics, and climbed back to the top ranks of his class.
His determination soon paid off. In a competitive entrance examination involving 118 pupils, he placed first, an achievement that allowed him to skip a class entirely. From that point forward, excellence became a consistent pattern. He served as Senior Boys Prefect, he also went on to emerge as the overall best student in his school in the 2004 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and
At Adonten Secondary School in Aburi, his leadership qualities flourished further. He was elected both Senior Boys Prefect and President of the School Representative Council (SRC), roles in which he demonstrated discipline, responsibility, and the ability to inspire others.
Mr. Perprem’s pursuit of education continued with equal determination. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Integrated Business Studies, followed by an MPhil in Development Studies from the University for Development Studies. He later earned two additional master’s degrees in Belgium, one from the University of Antwerp and another from KU Leuven, marking a significant academic journey from rural Ghana to some of Europe’s most respected institutions.
His professional career reflects a strong commitment to development and knowledge sharing. He has served as a Teaching and Research Assistant at the University for Development Studies and later as a Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a development consultant with more than 15 years of experience and has authored over 15 scientific publications.
Beyond academia, Mr. Perprem has demonstrated a passion for entrepreneurship and social impact. He is the founder of Drewperp Consult Limited, Drewperp Financial Services, and Save the Mining Communities–Ghana, initiatives that focus on job creation, financial empowerment, and sustainable development in vulnerable communities.
His leadership has also been felt strongly within the Ghanaian diaspora in Belgium. For over five years, he served as Secretary of the National Union of Ghana Students–Belgium, working closely with the Ghana Embassy in Brussels and other stakeholders to advance the welfare of Ghanaian students. During this period, he organized numerous seminars, symposia, and leadership development programs aimed at empowering young people.
In the political space, Mr. Perprem has emerged as a strategic organizer and mobilizer. He is a founder of United Belgium for Bawumia (UBB), a movement focused on grassroots mobilization, resource coordination, and political engagement in support of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Currently serving as Acting Secretary of the NPP Antwerp Chapter, his contributions have been widely recognized within the party’s Belgium branch.
Observers note that his candidacy for the Secretary position of NPP Belgium is grounded not only in his experience but also in a life story that resonates with perseverance, discipline, and service.
From walking barefoot in Agyapomaa to engaging in leadership and development work in Europe, Andrews Kwame Perprem’s journey reflects a narrative of resilience and transformation, one that continues to inspire many within and beyond the Ghanaian community.
