Chairman Wontumi & Akonta Mining not charged for illegal mining – Wontumi’s Lawyer Ohene Gyan clarifies charges against Wontumi and Akonta Mining

Legal counsel for Chairman Wontumi, Lawyer Ohene Gyan, has clarified that the charges facing his client and Akonta Mining are not related to illegal mining activities.

Speaking on Kessben FM, Lawyer Gyan explained that the matter centers on the assignment of a mining concession to an individual identified as Henry, who used the land for mining operations instead of coconut farming.

“The charge on Wontumi and Akonta Mining is not illegal mining. It is about the unlawful assignment of a concession to one Henry, who is believed to have used the land for illegal mining,” he stated.

The lawyer maintained that the distinction is important in understanding the nature of the case and the allegations being investigated. His comments come amid ongoing public discussions surrounding mining activities and regulatory compliance in Ghana’s mining sector.

Authorities are yet to provide further details as investigations and legal proceedings continue.
