“We Are Waiting for the Chief of Staff to Come and Cry Again” — Awal Mohammed Jabs Greater Accra Minister Over Remarks

Story: Maurice Otoo

Awal Mohammed, a member of the NPP Communication Team, has strongly criticized Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo over recent comments he described as divisive and inappropriate.

Speaking during a discussion on the minister’s public statement on Kessben Maakye show, Awal Mohammed insisted it is not compulsory for every politician to make public pronouncements, especially when such comments could create unnecessary tension.

“We are expecting the Chief of Staff to come and cry again,” he stated, taking a swipe at government officials over what he believes is a recurring pattern of controversial public remarks.

According to him, the Greater Accra Regional Minister has become known for making statements that spark public backlash. He referenced comments allegedly made during discussions surrounding the “Woezor” programme, where the minister reportedly suggested that Accra belonged to a particular group of people so they will not permit it.

Awal Mohammed argued that every region in Ghana deserves equal respect and recognition, stressing that the Northern and Savannah areas are equally important as Greater Accra.

“Tamale or the northern regions are as good as any other region in Ghana. The people living there are also human beings,” he stressed.

He further noted that many of the opportunities and resources available in Accra can also be found in northern Ghana, adding that the cost of living in those areas is often lower and more affordable.

“Food and other commodities are even more affordable there. Living conditions are less expensive, although the weather can sometimes be extremely hot,” he said.

Awal Mohammed also dismissed perceptions that Accra is significantly superior to other parts of the country, pointing out that temperatures in the capital can also rise sharply.

He concluded by urging Linda Ocloo to exercise caution in her public communications and advised that she be properly coached to avoid making statements that could deepen regional sentiments.

“Linda Ocloo did not speak well and must be coached to refrain from such statements,” he added.
