Hon. Isaac Adjei Mensah, Chairman of the Roads and Transportation Committee and Member of Parliament for Wassa East, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing Ghana’s road challenges through a nationwide infrastructure expansion agenda.
Speaking on the current state of roads in Ghana on Kessben Maakye show, the legislator stated that successive NDC administrations have played a significant role in road construction across the country, noting that apart from Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, the NDC government has undertaken substantial road development projects than any other regime.
He referenced the “Big Push” initiative under President John Dramani Mahama, describing it as a transformative programme aimed at improving road connectivity nationwide.
According to Hon. Agyei Mensah, the government is set to construct 50 major roads across the country, in addition to completing 13 projects initiated by the previous administration. He revealed that approximately GH¢63 billion has been allocated to ensure the successful execution of these projects.
He stressed that all 16 regions of Ghana have been considered under the programme, with major works currently underway in different parts of the country.
Among the key projects highlighted are the Tamale Outer Ring Road, the Kumasi Outer Ring Road, the Accra-Tema Motorway expansion, the Accra-Cape Coast highway, and the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.
Hon. Mensah further noted that feeder roads and urban roads have also been included in the government’s infrastructure agenda, emphasizing that road maintenance remains a priority through routine and periodic maintenance systems.
He expressed appreciation to President Mahama for what he described as a visionary approach to road construction and national development.
The remarks underscore the government’s broader strategy to modernize Ghana’s transport network and improve accessibility for citizens and businesses across the country.
