In 2025 NDC gave HMS contract to inexperienced firm – Energy Committee member Hon Aidoo reveals why Dumsor is back

A Member of Parliament for Oforikrom, Michael Akwasi Aidoo, has alleged that decisions taken by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government in 2025 contributed to the return of persistent power outages, popularly known as Dumsor.

According to the lawmaker, who also serves on Parliament’s Energy Committee, a contract awarded to an inexperienced company to supply Heat Medium Systems (HMS) has negatively affected the country’s power generation stability. He claimed the move compromised efficiency within the energy sector, leading to recurring disruptions.

Hon. Aidoo argued that the technical shortcomings associated with the system have made it difficult to maintain consistent power supply, thereby worsening the electricity challenges faced by households and businesses.

He further called for a thorough review of the contract and urged stakeholders in the energy sector to prioritize competence and due diligence in procurement processes to prevent similar issues in the future.
