As part of the effort to enhance provisions and ensure safety and protection of children in moving vehicles, the LADA Institute in collaboration with the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) and Road Lines Foundation has organized a one – day sensitization workshop in Accra, under the theme, ‘’Protecting Ghana’s Children on the Road; Understanding and implementing the new legislative framework on child passenger safety.

The workshop was aimed at disseminating child centered provisions of the Road Traffic (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1153) with representatives from the Ministry of Transport, Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), Padiatric Society of Ghana, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Ghana Standards Authority, Ghana National Association of Private Schools among others.

The event created a platform for stakeholders to deliberate, discuss issues on child restraint systems, limited access to child safety devices, poor road infrastructure, weak enforcement of laws new legislature framework on child/ passenger safety implementation, public awareness gaps on child safety in vehicles to conform with global best practices.

Speaking at the programe, the Founder and Executive Director of LADA Institute said existing laws do not make in-depth responsibility on parents and drivers to ensure the protection of children in moving vehicles, adding that LADA in partnership with Global Road Safety engaged in research on global best practices on child safety in vehicles and the findings impart positively on their advocacy.

He said their advocacy fed into government quest to review the Road Traffic Act,2004 (ACT842) and the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I.2180) which enabled the Institute to contribute immensely in strengthening the law and was quick to state that their advocacy was integrated into the process which forms part of the inputs to the law.

He expressed gratitude to government and other industry players for embracing the recommendations saying their contributions have helped sustain momentum particularly Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) and CUTS International.

The Regional Director for National Road Safety Authority, Mr. Joshua Quist said 328children lost their lives in the year 2025, adding that protecting children on the roads is a shared and a collective responsibility and thanked LADA Institute for raising the needed awareness campaign.
