BREAKING: From Gold Fields to Engineers & Planners, NDC Gov’t set to commence transfer of Damang Mine to Engineers & Planners

The current NDC government is set to begin the process of transferring ownership of the Damang Gold Mine from Gold Fields to Engineers and Planners, with the current lease approaching its expiry.
According to sources, Engineers and Planners is currently the only company that has demonstrated both the technical expertise and financial capacity required to take over operations at the mine.
On Wednesday, April 1, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, led members of Parliament’s Select Committee on Lands and Natural Resources on a working visit to the Damang site to evaluate the readiness of the company ahead of the takeover.
The visit is part of ongoing parliamentary oversight to ensure a smooth and efficient handover process, with the expiration of Gold Fields’ lease set for April 18.
Earlier, on March 28, 2026, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources announced the opening of a tender for the lease and operation of the Damang Mine, requiring interested bidders to pay a non-refundable application fee of GH¢100,000. The deadline for submissions was 4:00 p.m. on March 31, 2026.
