Sammy Gyamfi has pushed back against suggestions that his new role as CEO of the Gold Board has forced him into a corporate mould, insisting he remains firmly rooted in politics.
Speaking in the yet-to-be-aired PM Express Business Edition on Joy News, he made it clear that his political identity remains intact despite the demands of his current office.
“Well, I’m still in politics; what we are doing is a political job. So I’m not really a corporate person. I refuse to see myself like that,” he said.
Sammy Gyamfi stressed that he continues to hold his position within the National Democratic Congress, even if his visibility has reduced.
“I’m still the serving national communications officer of the NDC, but admittedly, my time for that role has reduced significantly,” he noted.
He explained that the gap created by his reduced public presence has been filled by others within the party’s communication machinery.
“Thankfully, I have enabled a deputy and a minister for government communications, who is also another brother, and so they filled the gap very effectively, and we are collaborating,” he added.
Despite stepping back from the frontline, Sammy Gyamfi revealed that he remains actively involved in political communication, albeit from behind the scenes.
“We do a lot of political communication work, even now that I find myself in this role, but from the background and at the right time, I believe Ghanaians, particularly party supporters, will see more of us in the political communication space,” he said.
He expressed confidence in the next generation of party communicators, describing them as capable and effective.
“We’ve been given an important assignment…fortunately I believe we have very capable, competent, effective, you know, communicators, most of them are very young guys who are doing the same job that some of us were doing,” he stated.
Sammy Gyamfi acknowledged that his reduced media presence has not gone unnoticed.
“But I agree, sometimes people will miss your face, people will miss a voice, and so we won’t make time for that as well,” he said.
For now, however, he insists his primary focus remains on delivering in his current role.
“But primarily, the work is cut out for us, and that is to ensure that we transform Ghana’s gold sector and optimise national benefits from the good resources we’ve been endowed with by Almighty God.”
