A resident analyst on Kessben FM’s Maakye programme has called on the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) Dr. Seidu Yakubu to substantiate his claim that a widely circulated video depicting poor conditions at the facility was generated using artificial intelligence.
Speaking during Tuesday’s edition of the Accra-based morning show, Nana Frimpong Ziega argued that Ghanaians do not need confirmation from doctors at Korle-Bu to recognize longstanding challenges at the country’s premier referral hospital.
According to him, the CEO’s dismissal of the viral footage as fabricated does not align with the widely acknowledged realities on the ground.
“We don’t need Korle-Bu doctors to tell us about the situation before we accept what is obvious,” he stated, insisting that issues such as inadequate beds and pressure on facilities are common knowledge.
His comments come in the wake of a recent visit to KBTH by the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, who reportedly acknowledged infrastructure deficits at the hospital. “Based on what I have seen, I know the hospital needs beds,” the minister said following his swift inspection after watching the viral video.
Ziega emphasized that while some politicians demonstrate integrity and competence in public service, it is important for public officials to be transparent rather than “defend the indefensible.” He urged the KBTH CEO to take responsibility and address the concerns raised instead of disputing them without evidence.
“If he insists the video was AI-generated, he should go to court and prove it, so that 1957news can also be held accountable for defamation if necessary,” he added.
The controversy surrounding the video has sparked public debate over conditions at Korle-Bu, with many citizens calling for urgent improvements in infrastructure and healthcare delivery.
Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Ghana’s largest tertiary health facility, has for years faced challenges related to congestion, logistics, and resource constraints, despite ongoing efforts by successive governments to improve the situation.
