Alexander Akourkoh, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) former Parliamentary Candidate for Ngleshie Amanfro, has launched a scathing attack on the United States and Israel over the ongoing conflict involving Iran, describing it as “the most useless war ever.”
Speaking in an interview on Kessben Maakye, Mr. Akourkoh accused the United States and Israel of escalating tensions in the Middle East and questioned the role of the United Nations in maintaining global peace.
According to him, the UN has become “a toothless bulldog,” incapable of holding powerful nations accountable.
“The United Nations appears powerless when it comes to calling America and Israel to order. The world is watching innocent lives being lost, yet the global body remains silent,” he said.
Mr. Akourkoh further alleged that, U.S. President Donald Trump showed disregard for the authority of the UN during his recent statement , contributing to what he described as a breakdown in international diplomatic respect.
He condemned reported attacks on civilian facilities, including schools, claiming that innocent students numbering 168 have lost their lives in the conflict. He described such actions as unjustifiable and called for immediate international intervention.
The NDC former parliamentary hopeful also referenced the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, arguing that Western powers unfairly branded him a terrorist before orchestrating his murder.
“Gaddafi was supporting his people and developing his country, yet he was eliminated under controversial circumstances,” he stated.
Mr. Akourkoh further alleged that the United States is manipulating global oil supply routes in the Middle East to create artificial shortages in order to boost its own economy — a claim he says has not received adequate scrutiny from the international community.
He expressed disappointment that the UN has not taken a firmer stance against what he termed “aggression” by the United States and Israel against Iran.
However, he welcomed remarks by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom condemning aspects of the conflict.
He concluded by arguing that the current tensions in the Middle East are not comparable to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, insisting that global powers must be consistent in their responses to international conflicts.
The situation in the Middle East continues to draw mixed reactions globally, with calls mounting for diplomatic solutions to prevent further escalation.
