Government should think about driving out Galamsey activities before thinking about paying money to clean dirtied water bodies – Wofa Kofi Appiah

Kessben Maakye host, Wofa Kofi Appiah has called on the government to prioritize eliminating illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey, before committing funds to clean polluted water bodies.

Speaking on his show on Kessben FM, Wofa Kofi Appiah argued that it would be counterproductive to spend large sums of money treating contaminated rivers while the activities responsible for the pollution continue unchecked.

“Government should think about driving out galamsey activities before thinking about paying money to clean our dirtied water bodies,” he said during the broadcast.

He stressed that illegal mining remains one of the major causes of water pollution in the country, with several rivers turning brown and unsafe for consumption due to mining operations. According to him, addressing the root cause of the problem would save the nation significant resources in the long term.

He urged authorities to intensify enforcement measures and hold offenders accountable to protect the environment and safeguard public health.
