Lack of urgency and negligence at Ghanaian hospitals: Man shares sad story on Kessben FM

A distraught caller has shared a troubling experience about alleged negligence and lack of urgency at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital during a live discussion on Kessben FM’s morning show.

The man, who phoned into the programme, recounted the ordeal of his brother, a spinal cord patient who was referred from Kumasi to Accra for specialist care. According to him, upon arrival at Korle-Bu, a health official questioned why they had brought the patient there, reportedly asking, “Didn’t ex-president Kuffour build an emergency unit for you in Kumasi? What are you doing here?”

The caller explained that his brother’s condition required urgent attention, prompting the transfer to the tertiary facility. However, he alleged that instead of receiving immediate care, they were met with delays and what he described as an insensitive response from a staff member.

Many callers urged health authorities to investigate such incidents and strengthen patient care standards to prevent avoidable complications and deaths.
