NPP is the cause of the high electricity & water tariffs in Ghana – Hon Haruna Yusif, former MCE of Offinso

Former municipal chief executive for Offinso South Municipality, Haruna Yusif, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of being responsible for the current high electricity and water tariffs in Ghana.
Speaking on Kessben FM during an interview with Wofa Kofi Appiah, Hon. Yusif claimed that tariff hikes stem from conditions agreed upon under an International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme during the NPP’s time in government.
According to him, the agreement required periodic, quarterly, adjustments in utility tariffs as part of broader fiscal and structural reforms. He argued that these measures have continued to impact consumers, contributing to rising household expenses.
“The NPP is the cause of the high electricity and water tariffs in Ghana,” he stated, maintaining that the policy direction was set during their administration through IMF conditionalities.
