Jail them in juvenile prisons – George Akom, an educationist, calls for tough sanctions over rising violence in senior high schools
An educationist, George Akom, has called for stricter disciplinary measures to address growing incidents of violence in Senior High Schools across Ghana.
Speaking on Kessben FM with Wofa Kofi Appiah, Mr. Akom expressed concern over what he described as a worrying rise in student misconduct, including assaults and clashes on school campuses.
“There must be serious punishment by stakeholders,” he stressed, arguing that lenient disciplinary approaches have failed to deter violent behavior. According to him, firm action from school authorities, parents, and the Ghana Education Service is necessary to restore discipline and protect students and staff.
Mr. Akom suggested that in severe cases, some offending students should serve time in juvenile correctional facilities to serve as a deterrent to others. He maintained that accountability is key to preventing further escalation of violence in schools.
