NPP-USA’s Elijah K. Amanor Seeks Branch Secretary Position Amidst Party Rebuilding Efforts

Elijah K. Amanor, current Massachusetts Chapter Secretary of NPP-USA, has thrown his hat into the ring for the position of Branch Secretary. In his declaration of intent, Amanor highlighted his experience within the party, dating back to 2004, and his vision for unity and growth.
Amanor’s mission is centered around reconciliation, listening, and merging perspectives. He aims to serve as a direct link between chapters, ensuring uniform growth and recognizing active members. His goals include:
Uniform Chapter Growth: Ensuring chapters grow uniformly within the branch and across Ghana
Member Recognition: Recognizing and connecting active members with their constituencies
Resource Allocation: Proposing annual membership dues appropriation to support constituencies
Youth Engagement: Addressing issues that attract the growing youth to the party
Communication: Improving communication with chapter leaders through IT empowerment
The NPP-USA Branch plays a crucial role in supporting the party’s activities in the USA and promoting Ghana’s development. With Amanor’s leadership, the branch aims to enhance its impact.
Amanor’s declaration comes at a critical time for the NPP, which has just concluded its presidential primaries, with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerging victorious on January 31, 2026.
Below is the full declaration of intent
Declaration of Intent
“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Franklin D. Roosevelt was the 32nd U.S. president, elected during the Great Depression and World War II. Nothing seemed to be working right at the time, given the economic crisis, terror, and high unemployment, but he needed to inspire hope in his March 4, 1933, inaugural address. The NPP is at a similar crossroads today; we lost the 2024 elections with mixed feelings, lost trust, and lost confidence in ourselves, with huge cracks among famous names and within the party’s rank and file. While we can all agree that these things are normal when a flag bearer is being elected, it is also important to understand that the issues, if not properly addressed, can escalate and not only hurt us as a party in the long run but also keep us in opposition for a long time.
We all know why we lost the 2024 elections so that I won’t waste your time with details. We thank leadership for an early presidential primary, which just concluded, and for electing our new flag-bearer, H.E. Dr. Mahamud Bawumia. We now face the task of uniting the party, healing the cracks that caused the 2024 election defeat, and further dragging the round-up into the January 31st, 2026, presidential primaries. We are also faced with a polarized nation, riddled with tribal and religious bigotry from the same presidential primaries. There will therefore be a lot of work on the shoulders of our flag-bearer, not only in uniting the NPP but also in dispelling the bigotry that emanates from it. To do that, the party will require leadership with the skill to execute this mission.
After a successful presidential primary, the NPP has issued a timeline for reconstructing the party structure (from polling station executives to national executives). Leaders with special qualities will be needed in these positions to undertake the herculean task. While all qualities are needed, some positions are unique and require highly tactful skills, including a high level of emotional intelligence and strong organizational skills. The NPP-USA Branch is one of many external Branches whose aims and objectives are not different from those specified by the Constitution of the NPP Ghana, but also include the need to;
1. Oversee the operations of the party’s activities in the USA
2. Support and implement the programs of the NPP-Ghana in the USA.
3. Promote and publicize policies of the NPP-Ghana in the USA.
4. Mobilize funds, technological resources, and human resources to assist NPP-Ghana
5. Promote issues that improve the welfare of the entire NPP-USA membership
The NPP-USA is also one of the NPP party’s largest branches worldwide, and the well-being of the NPP-USA and its members will be very important to the NPP party’s overall strength.
The strength of an organization depends heavily on its secretariat, which cannot be taken lightly. It requires a tactful leader with high emotional intelligence, who is highly organized and detail-oriented, and maintains strict confidentiality, to manage it. The leader must also have strong communication skills, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to work collaboratively with leadership and leaders while remaining calm under pressure.
I, Elijah K. Amanor having been active in the affairs of the party since 2004, both closely and from afar. Having been fully active in the party’s operations both at the grassroots level in Ghana and at the chapter and branch levels of the NPP-USA, and currently serving as the NPP-USA Massachusetts Chapter Secretary, do hereby present myself for election to the NPP-USA secretariat to serve as its secretary when nominations open sometime this year, 2026. I possess a high level of expertise and experience, as outlined in the paragraphs above.
Having taken the time to understand the party’s rudiments, structure, ideas, and beliefs, its members in both Ghana and the USA, and the way forward. I have made consultations, and believe I will be the right person for the position at this turbulent time. My mission will be reconciliatory, listening, processing differences in ideas, and working to merge perspectives. My goal will be to listen and work more closely with all chapter chairpersons to bring their ideas and problems to bear.
1. I will serve as the direct link between all chapters, ensuring their uniform formation and growth within the branch and across Ghana.
2. I will ensure that active members at the chapter level are recognized and connected with their respective constituencies through the Branch level, the headquarters, and their respective regional levels.
3. I will propose an appropriation of annual membership dues payments from the branch level through Ghana headquarters and the regional levels to their respective constituencies; this way, they are directly linked to their constituencies.
4. I will work to ensure that all our activities align with our flagbearer’s vision
5. I will also collaborate with all chapter chairpersons to ensure that we are addressing issues that make the NPP more attractive to the growing youth.
6. I will also work with chapter chairpersons and the headquarters as a whole to roll out activities that attract people to the party through the party’s beliefs, ideologies, and hard work.
7. I will work with and empower the IT teams to build a system that improves communication with Chapter leaders throughout the United States.
