Galamsey Fight: Erastus Asare Donkor is not exposing Galamsey, He’s trying to implicate some people – Kwasi Mensah
Kwasi Mensah, has criticized the approach of investigative journalist Erastus Asare Donkor in the fight against galamsey, claiming his work focuses more on implicating individuals than exposing the broader problem.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Mensah stated that Erastus Asare Donkor is “not exposing any galamsey” but is rather “trying to find some people to implicate,” drawing comparisons to the investigative style of Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
According to Mensah, while illegal mining remains a serious environmental threat to Ghana’s rivers and forest reserves, the fight should concentrate on dismantling networks and addressing systemic failures instead of targeting selected individuals. He suggested that the current approach risks creating sensational headlines without necessarily delivering long-term solutions.
Erastus Asare Donkor has earned recognition for his environmental reporting, particularly on illegal mining activities and their impact on water bodies. His investigations have sparked national conversations and prompted calls for stronger enforcement actions.
