Dollar depreciating under NDC Gov’t: Importers and a few others enriching themselves – Kennedy Kankam

Kennedy Kankam, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has alleged that the depreciation of the US dollar under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is benefiting a section of importers and a few individuals at the expense of ordinary Ghanaians.

Speaking in an interview on Kessben FM, Mr. Kankam claimed that the currency situation has created opportunities for some businesses to increase prices of imported goods beyond reasonable margins, thereby making excessive profits.

According to him, while the broader population struggles with rising living costs, certain importers are exploiting exchange rate fluctuations for personal gain.

He argued that weak economic management and inadequate regulatory oversight have contributed to the current challenges, calling for urgent measures to stabilize the cedi and protect consumers.

Mr. Kankam further emphasized the need to strengthen local production and reduce overreliance on imports to cushion the economy against external shocks.
