It’s sad that Ghana could not establish the widely publicized sugar factory – Wofa Kofi Appiah

Wofa Kofi Appiah has expressed deep disappointment over Ghana’s inability to establish the widely publicized sugar factory that many believed would transform the local agro-processing industry.

Speaking on his show on Kessben FM, he described the stalled project as a missed opportunity for economic growth and job creation.

According to Wofa Kofi Appiah, the promise of a fully operational sugar factory brought hope to thousands of Ghanaians, particularly farmers who anticipated a ready market for their sugarcane produce. He lamented that despite the publicity and assurances surrounding the initiative, the country is yet to see the tangible benefits that were projected at the height of the announcement.

He noted that Ghana continues to import large quantities of sugar annually, a situation he believes could have been significantly reduced if the factory had materialized. “We talk about industrialization and self-sufficiency, yet we struggle to complete projects that could directly support these goals,” he reportedly said during the broadcast.

Wofa Kofi Appiah further emphasized the ripple effect such a factory would have had on employment. Beyond direct jobs at the plant, he pointed out that transport operators, suppliers, and small-scale traders would have benefited from a thriving sugar production value chain.
