Deputy Spokesperson and Aide to Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Kofi Tonto, has emphasized crucial development approaches essential for Ghana’s development.

According to Kofi Tonto, Dr. Bawumia believes the leapfrogging approach is one of the important ways to advance Ghana’s economic improvement and development.

In an interview on Kessben’s Morning Show ‘Maakye’ on January 28, he asserted that this has already been evident in Ghana’s development landscape and that it is time to leverage it to drive the country’s economic expectations.

THE LEAPFROGGING APPROACH

The leapfrogging approach is a development strategy that suggests countries move from traditional stages of development and jump straight into advanced modern technology.

Kofi Tonto therefore cited the instance where Ghana leapfrogged from using landlines and moved directly into the use of cell phones, with data showing that, on average, every Ghanaian owns at least two cell phones.

This, he explains, has always been Dr. Bawumia’s vision, with great commitment, to push Ghana beyond limits into a modern, advanced system to ultimately improve the country’s economic gains.

UNEMPLOYMENT RATE REDUCTION

Also, this approach, he is certain, will help reduce the country’s unemployment rate, ensuring that most of the youth gain hands-on expertise in modern technology.

A visible example is the mobile money interoperability, spearheaded by Dr. Bawumia which is how Ghana leapfrogged from traditional banking services to modern mobile money transactions, and boosted financial inclusion.
Evidently, securing the employment of about nine hundred thousand youths in the country.
And this, he asserts, is just one out of the many benefits, we can achieve with this leapfrogging approach.

IN CONCLUSION

In his concluding remarks, Kofi Tonto disclosed that the New Patriotic Party fully accepts the mistakes they made while in Government, and is willing to make amends with Dr. Bawumia leading the party into victory in 2028.

He also debunked some claims connecting the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections to Dr Bawumia’s ethnicity and religious status as completely false.

Stating emphatically that the government’s mistakes, apathy of party members, and internal party conflicts were major reasons for their overwhelming defeat, which obviously has nothing to do with Dr. Bawumia.

Therefore, with just three days to the party’s presidential primary, he’s calling on all delegates to vote massively for Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia come Saturday, January 31, 2026.
