Police Crack Down on Armed Robbery in Ghana: 12 Suspects Arrested

Ghana Police Service (GPS) has announced the arrest of seven suspects involved in a highway robbery targeting a Council of State Member and five suspects in connection with a robbery attack at Nkaseim in the Ahafo Region.
The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (DG/CID), COP Ms Lydia Yaako Donkor, disclosed this during a press briefing at the CID Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
According to COP Donkor, the seven suspects arrested in connection with the highway robbery are Rashida Yusif, Aaron Abana Baswiefanga, Wilson Avasong, Muntaru Iddrisu (Virgin), Aminu Zebrilla (Birdman), Inusah Sumaila (Agenda), and Haruna Safiano. The victim was attacked by six armed men on July 21, 2025, while traveling along the Tamale Buipe Highway, losing personal belongings including mobile phones, cash, wristwatches, and a laptop.
The police operation, led by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit, was launched on January 11, 2026, following intelligence gathered by the CID. Rashida Yusif was arrested in Salaga, Savannah Region, with an iPhone 7 Plus belonging to the victim. Further investigations led to the arrest of other suspects and the recovery of several items, including locally manufactured guns, ammunition, and stolen mobile phones.
In the Nkaseim robbery case, five suspects were arrested, including Mutar Kofi, Mahamadu Sagio alias Salifu, Shaibu Issah Jallo alias Jibo, Abdul Suleman, and Bukari Sulley alias Tailor. The attack occurred on December 2, 2025, with the assailants stealing two AK47 service rifles, cash, and injuring an employee of the Adwumapa Cocoa Buying Company.
COP Donkor urged the public to take personal security seriously, remain vigilant against cybercrimes, and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
