Gradually, the presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party is drawing near, and all the aspirants have put on their shoes to intensify their efforts to win the hearts of the NPP delegates to give them their mandate to lead the party to wrestle power from the NDC come 2028 general elections. In politics, there is no way an aspirant will be praising people he/she is contesting with in an election campaign tour and for that matter, delegates must not be swayed by the unfounded allegations they level against their opponents when they come to them. The choice we make today will surely determine the outcome of what the future will be, and for that matter, it is imperative to make the right choice at this crucial moment. The New Patriotic Party must be thankful to God for giving us a candidate in the caliber of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who is gentle, respectful, honest, kind, tolerant, loving, obedient, and humble and to climax it all not egoistic. He is a man with a divine mission to fulfill and it will be disastrous for Npp delegates to change him this time round when a lot of Ghanaians have come to realize the NDC threw dust into their eyes into voting for them based on their resetting and 24 hour-economy Agenda which has turned to be a mere political talk.
In the first instance, we must not fail to appreciate the name Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (Peacemaker) whose bold decision to concede defeat before the electoral commissioner’s declaration saved the nation from tearing apart. He is a true democrat, visionary and someone who can create something out of nothing. He is a man with fresh ideas and that is what the NPP needs in this modern times. The man who sacrificed his life and everything to stand in for the party at the Supreme Court in the 2012 election petition has offered himself to be given another chance to lead the New Patriotic Party to bring us back to the reins of government come 2028. It beat my imagination when some pastors, aspirants and their supporters move around telling Ghanaians we lost the elections because of the candidature of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia all in the name of Christians say they don’t want a Muslim to lead them.
It may interest Ghanaians to note that these same Christian Religious Churches have been inviting him to their church programs to grace the occasion and when he (Bawumia) gives them money as a means of support they take it with a smile on their faces. There is always voter apathy whenever a party had been in the reins of government for eight (8) years and it is unfair for some people to apportion blame on him alone for losing the last general elections not taking into account the trend our past elections have followed. God our creator loves us all as Christians and He expects his followers to love one another and no matter our religious and ethnic background, we should see ourselves as one people with a common destiny. We are all descendants of Abraham and for that matter we have to be ready to vote for our presidential aspirants based on their competence and not on religious/ tribal/ethnic grounds.
It is disheartening and worrisome to see the same people in the NPP who had once praised him on radio and television for his commitment, dedication, hard work, vision, and policies he shared with his boss (Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo –Addo) to implement and for political expediency, have swallowed their words and are now discrediting him, for putting our economy in a bizarre situation. Most especially, they say he could not arrest the dollar as he promised when NPP was in power, having forgotten the fact that, the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and the Rusia – Ukraine war created a lot of challenges for the NPP administration. His critics knew he was not the finance minister or the finance committee chair and yet accused him of not performing well when it comes to managing the economy. As the vice president, he does not have a direct power to implement policies. He can only give suggestions to his boss and whether he will take it or not depends on his boss. If I may ask, his accusers did they see him on any day going to parliament to read the budget or address Ghanaians on the state of the nation?
Last year, for instance, when His Excellency John Dramani Mahama had the opportunity to address Harvard university students at the 24th African Business Conference, he attributed Ghana’s economic hardships to Covid-19 pandemic and Rusia – Ukraine war. Despite the many challenges he and his boss faced, they were able to come up with some eye-marking policies and developmental projects such as Zipline Drones, Agenda 111 hospitals, Sinohydro Barter Agreement, Zongo Development Fund, Gold for Oil policy. One ambulance for each constituency, Ghana Card System and a system to tackle ghost names on government payroll were also implemented. Also, the abolishing of the filling of embarkation and disembarkation cards at airport was also introduced. His good policies are visible and working to perfection. The New Patriotic Party cannot afford to lose such an intelligent and visionary man whose integrity in politics is unparalleled.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has never been found wanting in the area of corruption and foul play, rather, he has maintained an impeccable and transparent character in leadership, that was the reason why he served in high positions under the erstwhile J.A Kufour and Akufo Addo’s administration. I think NPP delegates must identify themselves with a man who can accommodate all the insults and false allegations levelled against him without coming out to react publicly. God Almighty has blessed him well but when you have a mission to accomplish for God’s purpose you cannot hide. Give him another chance as you gave our former leaders John Agyekum Kufour and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo. Since Ghana became a democratic state no first timer has ever won the presidential elections.
I strongly believe maintaining Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will be the best decision for the NPP to better its chances in their quest to wrestle power from their political opponents in the next general elections where the NDC will have to present a fresh candidate to contest him. It is laughable when the NDC claim Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will be an easy match for them, come 2028 general elections. NPP delegates are discerning and they don’t need a soothsayer to come and tell them Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the best choice for 2028. His candidature will give the NDC sleepless night as they will have nothing to say to about him to the good people of Ghana and they will be concentrating on pumping huge sums of dollars into forex market to aid cedi’s stability leaving other major responsibilities unattended to. My passionate appeal to all the NPP delegates is to vote massively for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to get more than 70 percent in the upcoming presidential primaries to break down NDC’s propaganda machinery. IT IS STILL POSSIBLE
