Ghana is looking for a first gentleman, not a first shouter – Bawumia’s deputy spokesperson, Ekua Amoakoh urges delegates to choose competence

Dr Ekua Amoakoh, Deputy Spokesperson for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has hit back at critics of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, stating that Ghana needs a “first gentleman, not a first shouter” as the party prepares for its presidential primaries.

Speaking on Kessben FM’s Amansan Tie with host KOD, Amoakoh dismissed claims that Dr. Bawumia’s calm and measured approach to politics is a weakness. According to her, leadership is not about noise-making or public theatrics but about competence, discipline, and the ability to deliver results for the nation.

She argued that Ghana is at a stage where it requires a leader who can engage respectfully, think clearly under pressure, and represent the country with dignity both at home and on the international stage. “Ghanaians are looking for a first gentleman, someone who listens, consults, and acts thoughtfully, not a first shouter who thrives on insults and empty rhetoric,” she stressed.

She urged party members and the general public to focus on track record, ideas, and vision for Ghana’s future rather than loud criticisms.

She concluded by expressing confidence that delegates and voters will ultimately choose leadership based on substance, character, and the ability to move Ghana forward, rather than on who shouts the loudest.
