Invest in the Private Sector by Providing Buses for Commercial Drivers – Samuel Amoah
Story by: Richmond Obeng

The Deputy National Communications Officer of the Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU), Mr. Samuel Amoah has urged the government to invest in the private sector and acquire buses for private drivers if it is serious about dealing with the current transport sector crisis.
He made this request whilst speaking to Kojo Preko Dankwah on Kesben Maakye.
According to Mr. Amoah, a survey by the union has revealed that there is a surge in the number of passengers who use commercial vehicles on daily basis and as such there is the need for more buses to absorb the increase.
He claimed that efforts by governments past and present to invest in a public sector transport system have over the years proved futile and hence the government must shift towards the private sector.
He said, “go to the Aayalolo and Metro Mass transit yards and see the number of vehicles there that are in a bad shape. Some workers even steal some of the parts for their own use.”
However, if these buses were purchased for private drivers to be paid for whilst working, the government can arrest defaulters and retrieve its funds.
