Decline in the dollar rate is not benefiting majority of Ghanaians but few Ghanaians who are into importation are enjoying – NPP’s Dr Owusu Poku

Dr. Owusu Poku, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has observed that the recent decline in the dollar rate is not benefiting the majority of Ghanaians.

Speaking on Kessben FM with KOD, he noted that only a small segment of the population, mainly those directly involved in importation, are enjoying the gains from the stronger cedi.

According to Dr. Poku, most Ghanaians have yet to feel any meaningful relief in the prices of goods and services, despite the improved exchange rate.

He explained that importers who purchase goods in foreign currency are the immediate beneficiaries, while the wider population continues to struggle with high living costs.

He further suggested that without deliberate measures to translate the falling dollar rate into reduced prices at the market level, the positive exchange rate movement would remain limited in impact.
