NPP expulsion threats won’t force me out – Prof. Frimpong-Boateng

Former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, says he has no intention of leaving the New Patriotic Party (NPP), despite moves by the party to initiate expulsion proceedings against him over recent public comments.

Former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, says he has no intention of leaving the New Patriotic Party (NPP), despite moves by the party to initiate expulsion proceedings against him over recent public comments.

The outspoken former minister has also made it clear that he will not honour any invitation to appear before either the party’s National Executive Committee or its Disciplinary Committee.

“I will not go there. Because of who is there? I will not go there at all, waste my time,” he said.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s comments follow confirmation by the NPP that it has begun processes to expel him after he publicly described the party as “fake” and accused its current leadership of deviating from its founding values.

Speaking on Asempa FM on Tuesday, January 13, the former minister insisted that he remains a committed member of the NPP and argued that those he describes as “fake” elements within the party should rather be the ones to exit.

“No, I’m not leaving the party. They should leave the party. They are the fake ones, they should go away, and the true party now will stand,” he stated.

He further accused the current leadership and membership of destroying the party and called for a complete reset to restore the NPP to its original ideals.

“I don’t care about former President or no former President. What I am saying is the party as it stands now, everyone you see who is part of the party has destroyed the party, so everyone should quit, they should leave so that the party, as it was since it was founded in Ghana, will be restored. This way, the NPP will stand,” he added.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s remarks follow an earlier interview on Point of View on Channel One TV, hosted by Bernard Avle, where he described the NPP as a “fake party” and stated that he no longer considered himself a member.

During the same interview, he also alleged that the NPP’s 2023 presidential primary was manipulated in favour of then Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

In response, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua, issued a statement condemning the remarks, describing them as “highly reprehensible” and inconsistent with the party’s values, integrity, and unity.

The party strongly rejected the description of the NPP as “fake” and dismissed the allegations of rigging in the presidential primary as unsubstantiated.
