Ghana Must Avoid Politicized Persecution, Says Prof Danquah

A leading academic has warned that Ghana risks undermining its economic recovery and institutional credibility if it allows politicized persecution to dictate the course of justice.

Prof Joseph Danquah of Bradford University made the remarks in reference to the case of Dr Ato Forson, Ghana’s Finance Minister, highlighting the potential consequences of former President Nana Addo’s alleged attempt to jail him.

“Had Nana Addo succeeded in jailing Ato Forson, Ghana would today be deprived of the competent economic leadership contributing to the current stabilisation of the cedi,” Prof Danquah said.

The academic emphasized that abuse of state power driven by political vendetta rather than national interest can have far-reaching consequences, including undermining economic recovery and institutional credibility.

“Ghana must never again subordinate justice, talent, and economic management to partisan calculations,” Prof Danquah stressed.

Dr Forson has been instrumental in implementing economic reforms and stabilizing the cedi. His leadership has been credited with Ghana’s recent economic gains.

The episode serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting Ghana’s institutions and ensuring that justice is not used as a tool for political persecution.
