Heal Komfo Anokye project halts for audit, not truncated – KATH CEO

The Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr. Paa Kwasi Baidoo, has clarified that the Heal Komfo Anokye Project has not been abandoned, contrary to public speculation.

According to him, the project initiated under the previous administration led by Prof Addai Mensah was temporarily halted to allow for an internal assessment and audit following the assumption of office by the new management and board.

Dr. Baidoo explained that the decision was necessary to ensure transparency, accountability, and value for money before continuing with the renovation of the hospital’s aging blocks.

Speaking at the launch of KATH’s 70th anniversary celebrations, he assured the public that the project would resume immediately after the Board concludes deliberations on the audit report.

He further renewed an appeal to government, corporate institutions, and the general public to support the Heal Komfo Anokye Project to ensure its successful completion.

The Heal Komfo Anokye Project is a flagship initiative spearheaded by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, aimed at rehabilitating and modernizing the deteriorating infrastructure of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

Chairman of the KATH Board and Hiahene of Asanteman, Nana Prof. Oheneba Boakye-Agyei, noted that the hospital’s 70th anniversary provides an opportunity to strengthen governance through capacity building, infrastructure development, and innovation, while deepening partnerships to reposition KATH to meet the healthcare needs of future generations.
