VP Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang Reaffirms Govt’s Commitment to Diaspora Partnership and Reparations at 2025 Summit

Ghana’s Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has emphasized the country’s dedication to harnessing history and collaboration to drive national development. Addressing the closing ceremony of the 2025 Diaspora Summit, she highlighted Ghana’s commitment to mutually beneficial partnerships and reparations as a moral imperative.

The two-day summit reflected on Ghana’s past, confronting the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade legacy and spotlighting the diaspora’s contributions. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang lauded the diaspora’s bond with Ghana, asserting the country is defined by its expansive community sharing its heritage.

She emphasized President Mahama’s commitment to advancing reparations, rooted in accountability, recognition, and justice. As African Union Champion for Reparations, Ghana views this initiative as a catalyst for turning historical remembrance into transformative action.

Drawing on her academic research, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang challenged narratives of passivity, highlighting Africa’s resistance and courage. “The past is not a closed chapter; it beckons us to build each other up and turn memory into meaningful action,” she said.

Looking ahead, she declared Ghana is building on gains, with confidence returning to the economy and stability growing. “Progress requires all of us—at home and abroad—to safeguard and grow those gains,” she stressed.

The Vice President invited the diaspora to collaborate, affirming Ghana’s readiness to build lasting partnerships. Invoking blessings, she said, “May God bless our homeland and bless us all.” The summit’s call—to reset Ghana through accountability, respect, and commitment—resonates as a testament to the nation’s resolve to shape a future anchored in justice and unity.

The event underscored Ghana’s commitment to diaspora engagement, reparations, and national development, reflecting a shared vision for a prosperous future
