Mpohor Miners Welcome Govt’s Responsible Mining Initiative

A team from the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Program, led by Deputy National Coordinator George Dadzie Jnr, paid a working visit to the Mpohor District on Tuesday, 16th December 2025. The visit was aimed at engaging with local stakeholders and promoting responsible and sustainable mining practices in the area.
The team first held a fruitful engagement with the District Chief Executive (DCE), during which discussions were held on the objectives and plans of the visit. The DCE expressed his support for the initiative, highlighting the importance of responsible mining practices in the district.

Following the meeting, the team, together with the DCE and Honorable members, proceeded to the community centre to engage the illegal miners within the Mpohor enclave. The discussion focused on responsible and sustainable mining practices and the importance of cooperative mining. The miners were educated on the benefits of adopting responsible mining practices, including improved safety, environmental protection, and increased revenue.
The miners expressed profound happiness and appreciation for the engagement, as many of their concerns were addressed and clarified during the discussions. They welcomed the initiative and pledged to support the efforts to promote responsible mining practices in the district.
After the community engagement, the team visited all mining sites in and around Mpohor to assess the land possible for the establishment of a Responsible Cooperative Mining initiative. The team was impressed with the potential of the area and identified several sites that could be suitable for the initiative.
The team was made up of the following members: George Dadzie Jnr, Deputy National Coordinator in charge of Operations; Kwadwo Debrah, Head of Mining and Geology; and John Afful, Director of Communications.
The visit is part of efforts to promote responsible mining practices and support local communities. The Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Program aims to promote sustainable mining practices, improve the lives of miners, and contribute to the development of the country.
The initiative is expected to benefit the local community in several ways, including the creation of jobs, improvement of infrastructure, and provision of skills training. The program will also provide support to miners to help them adopt responsible mining practices and improve their productivity.
The visit to Mpohor District is part of a broader effort to promote responsible mining practices in Ghana. The government has made it clear that it will not tolerate illegal mining and is committed to promoting sustainable mining practices.
The Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Program is a welcome initiative that is expected to make a significant impact in the mining sector. The program is expected to be rolled out in other districts in the country, with the aim of promoting responsible mining practices and improving the lives of miners.

Overall, the visit to Mpohor District was a success, and the team is expected to continue engaging with local stakeholders to promote responsible mining practices. The initiative is a step in the right direction, and it is expected to contribute to the development of the country.
