Marriage is between man and a woman, I will sign LGBTQ bill if passed by parliament – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his support for what he calls the “Family Values” Bill, declaring that he will sign the controversial anti-LGBTQ legislation into law if Parliament approves it.

During a courtesy meeting with the Christian Council of Ghana at Jubilee House, Mahama made his position clear: “Marriage is between man and woman. A person’s gender is determined at birth,” he said, adding that the family is “the foundation of our nation.”

He said that under his government, the bill will be relayed to Parliament for debate, amendment, and vote. If passed, he pledged to give it his assent.

The President also emphasized that his support for the bill aligns closely with the beliefs of Christian communities in Ghana. “We are completely aligned with the Christian Council … in terms of your belief,” he stated.
