Any leader involved in Galamsey must not be shielded – NDC’s James Sukah declares

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Officer for the Oforikrom Constituency, James Sukah, popularly known as Papa Jay, has emphasized that no leader, regardless of political affiliation, should be protected if found engaging in illegal mining, commonly known as Galamsey.

Speaking in an interview on Kessben FM, Papa Jay stated that the NDC remains firm in its commitment to fight against galamsey and protect the country’s natural resources.

He noted that illegal mining has caused severe destruction to water bodies, farmlands, and the environment, and that addressing the menace requires honesty and political will.

“Any leader who is involved in galamsey must not be shielded,” he stressed. “Whether the person is in the NDC or any other party, the law must take its course. We cannot destroy our environment and expect future generations to survive.”

Papa Jay further indicated that the NDC’s position on illegal mining is clear: the party supports responsible and regulated small-scale mining that creates jobs while preserving the environment. He urged the government and all political parties to move beyond rhetoric and demonstrate genuine commitment in tackling the galamsey crisis.
