Congestion in Kumasi: Citizens must act right despite law enforcement – Dr. Agyarko Oduro, Local Government expert

Dr. Agyarko Oduro, a Local Government expert, has emphasized that solving the growing congestion problem in Kumasi requires more than just the presence of law enforcement officers.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Dr. Oduro noted that while the city authorities and the police play an important role in maintaining order, the attitude and cooperation of residents and traders are equally crucial.
He explained that the continuous encroachment on roads, pavements, and unauthorized spaces by hawkers and commercial drivers contributes significantly to the traffic congestion and disorder witnessed in the central business district. “We can deploy all the task forces and police officers we want, but if people refuse to act responsibly, congestion will persist,” he stated.
Dr. Oduro urged the public to respect city by-laws, use designated trading areas, and comply with traffic regulations to support the efforts of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and law enforcement agencies.
He further encouraged authorities to intensify public education and ensure consistent enforcement to discourage indiscipline.
