Galamsey Fight: Accusations and counter-accusations killing Ghana – KOD fires on Kessben Maakye

Kwabena Owusu Dankwah (KOD), Co host of Kessben Maakye on Kessben FM, has expressed deep concern over the endless blame game surrounding the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as Galamsey, in Ghana.

Speaking passionately on his morning show, KOD lamented that instead of uniting to find lasting solutions, political figures, traditional leaders, and security agencies have turned the issue into a battlefield of accusations and counter-accusations.

According to KOD, the continuous trading of blame is undermining national efforts to protect the country’s water bodies and environment. “Everyone is pointing fingers, but nobody is ready to take responsibility or act decisively,” he fumed. “The galamsey menace is destroying our rivers, our farmlands, and our future — yet we are more interested in political debates than in real solutions.”

He stressed that the fight against illegal mining must be treated as a national emergency, not a partisan issue. KOD called on the government, opposition parties, local authorities, and community members to work together with honesty and transparency.
