Pragya is licensed for private use – DVLA Boss, sets records straight

Jerry Edem Aflabo, Ashanti Regional Manager of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has clarified that the popular tricycle, commonly known as Pragya, is licensed strictly for private use and not for commercial transportation.
Speaking in an interview on Kessben with Wofa Kofi Appiah, the DVLA manager explained that while many Ghanaians rely on Pragya tricycles for short-distance transport services, the law does not currently permit their use for commercial purposes such as carrying passengers for a fare.
“By our licensing regulations, Pragya tricycles are meant for private use. They are not registered as commercial vehicles,” the DVLA manager emphasized. “We understand that many people use them for business, but that is not what the law allows.”
The manager also urged local assemblies and transport unions to collaborate with the appropriate authorities to regularize operations and educate Pragya riders on proper road usage, licensing, and insurance requirements.
