NPP Urged to Let NDC Handle Galamsey Issue

The Corporate Affairs Officer (External Affairs) at Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Government Spokesperson, Godwin Mahama Ayaba, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain silent while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government works to fix the illegal mining (galamsey) mess inherited from the previous administration.
Speaking with Kojo Preko Dankwa on Kessben Maakye, Mr. Ayaba stated that the NPP failed to show genuine commitment in the fight against illegal mining during its time in office.
He noted that although there were widespread public allegations of involvement by some government officials, the party did little to prevent the destruction of the country’s environment and natural resources.
According to him, the NPP government “gave free rein” to illegal miners, leading to the pollution of major water bodies and the degradation of forest reserves. Mr. Ayaba commended the current NDC administration for showing clear progress in addressing the galamsey menace within a few months in office.
He pointed out that improvements in several major water bodies demonstrate that the government’s strategies are working and the country is moving in the right direction. He further noted that with the efforts by the government’s interventions will become even more visible over time.
