Youth Employment Matters: AYWP Takes Proactive Step to Address Unemployment and Underemployment

The Association of Youth Work Practitioners (AYWP) has rolled out a program aimed at tackling the growing challenge of youth unemployment and underemployment in Ghana.
The initiative, which took place at GNAT Hall in Accra, was themed “Growing the Profession of Youth Work in Ghana.” It seeks to build capacity, certify practitioners, and promote professionalism in youth work across the country.
Speaking at the event, the moderator, Ms. Vera Addo, explained that the program was organized in partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Alliance for Youth Workers Association, and with support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as the National Youth Agency (NYA).
Ms. Addo stressed that the initiative is focused on raising standards, strengthening ethics, and creating pathways for career progression in youth work.
“This will ensure that anyone who chooses to engage in youth work is equipped with proper training, qualifications, and the requisite skills needed to handle youth-related issues effectively,” she said.
The program is expected to contribute significantly to building a skilled workforce while addressing the challenges of unemployment and underemployment among young people in Ghana.
