DCE Hon. Abubakar Sedik personally sets up a Taskforce to safeguard Water Bodies & Forests in Mankranso & its environs

Hon. Abubakar Sedik, the District Chief Executive for Ahafo Ano South West, has revealed he has a task force to clamp down on unauthorized activities around water bodies and forests within Mankranso and its environs.

Speaking on Kessben FM, where the DCE emphasized the necessity of preserving these critical natural resources.

According to Hon. Sedik, the areas around rivers, streams, forest reserves and buffer zones have begun to suffer from various encroachments, unauthorized farming, gold prospecting (often illegally), tree felling, and other environmental abuses.

These activities, he warns, are causing degradation of water quality, loss of forest cover, soil erosion, and threatening local livelihoods which depend on clean water and healthy forests.

Hon. Sedik underscored that the taskforce will act impartially: regardless of social status or influence, anyone found violating environmental protections will face consequences under the law. He also called for community cooperation, urging people to report illegal activities, so enforcement can be more effective.

The residents have welcomed the move, noting that there have been increasing complaints about muddy rivers, declining water quality, and loss of shade and wildlife due to indiscriminate clearing. They hope this action by the Assembly will help rein in destructive practices and restore ecological balance in the district.
