Ghana’s National Service Poultry Farm Emerges as West African Agricultural Model- Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has positioned Ghana’s National Service Authority Poultry Farm as a pioneering model for West African during inspection tour of the facility today Friday 12th September, 2025.

The President expressed remarkable confidence in the project’s potential, stating that is a very impressive number, and certain that soon they will work out to full capacity to be able to produce 100,000 birds to feed into the Ghanaian market.

“I promise to help you to develop this poultry farm into a center of excellence.” He assured.

President Mahama outlined an ambitious vision for the facility, declaring: It will be both a producing farm, it will also be a training farm, and it will be a research farm.” This multi-faceted approach positions the project as more than just a production facility, but as a comprehensive agricultural development center.

The farm currently operates with 70,000 birds and is designed to reach full capacity of 100,000 beds, representing a significant contribution to Ghana’s poultry production and food security.

Demonstrating unprecedented governmental support, President Mahama revealed his direct engagement with the Ministry of Finance.

“I told the Minister of Finance that I was coming on an inspection tour of this farm, and I shared with him the little that I heard about the farm. He’s out of the country at the moment, but as soon as he lands at the airport, I’m going to march him to this farm to come and see the good work you are doing here.” President Mahama stated.

The President assured stakeholders of comprehensive infrastructure support, promising funding for “the processing plant, the hostel, the vehicles, the solar power plants to boost electric supply”, and emphasized that the Minister of Finance will not hesitate in releasing the funds.

Perhaps most significantly, President Mahama positioned the project as a continental benchmark, stating: “We will support you all the way. We’ll make this a model farm so that people will come from other West African countries to come and study what national service personnel of Ghana and volunteers have done here.”

This vision transforms the National Service Authority Poultry Farm from a domestic agricultural project into a potential hub for regional agricultural education, research, and development.

The project represents a innovative approach to youth development, combining national service obligations with practical agricultural training and experience. By involving national service personnel and volunteers, Ghana is creating a sustainable model for youth engagement in agricultural modernization.

With President Mahama’s assurance that “you can be sure. We will support you all the way,” the National Service Authority Poultry Farm is positioned to become a transformative force in West African agriculture, potentially attracting students, researchers, and agricultural professionals from across the region.
