The culture of ‘I don’t care’ & selfishness that is creeping into our society is destroying us – Rev. Vincent Kankam (Sofo Kankam)

Reverend Vincent Kankam has raised an important alarm over a growing cultural shift that threatens the very fabric of families and communities, the rise of indifference and selfishness.

Speaking on Monday’s editionof Food For Thought on Kessben FM, Sofo Kankam stressed that the “I don’t care” attitude and an increasingly self-centered mindset are slowly eroding the core values that once held society together.

Rev. Kankam did not mince words as he addressed the widespread moral and social decay stemming from this dangerous cultural transformation. “We are becoming a people who only look out for ourselves, ignoring the pain, struggles, and needs of those around us. This is not just unfortunate, it is destructive,” he stated.

He echoed the concerns of many who observe the growing lack of empathy and communal responsibility. Acts of kindness, once considered the norm, are becoming rare. Neighbours barely know each other, families are fractured by individualism, and young people are growing up without strong examples of selfless love and mutual support.

This shift, he argues, is manifesting in various ways: road rage on our streets, corruption in offices, betrayal in relationships, and the general apathy toward the suffering of the less fortunate. It’s a systemic breakdown of values that, if left unchecked, will continue to rot the pillars of society from the inside.
