Debunking the myths: Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School and Misinformation

Michael Kessey (Akissiway)

It is deeply disturbing and unfortunate that some bloggers have chosen to spread falsehoods about the reputable Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS)—a school that has, over the years, produced distinguished leaders in Ghanaian society, including kings, lawyers, doctors, engineers, lecturers, professors, actors, sportsmen and women, Members of Parliament, and former ministers of state.

Recently, a misleading video surfaced online, falsely claiming that students of OKESS were demonstrating in support of the outgoing headmaster, “M Square,” in an attempt to prevent his transfer. This video, shared by a fake blogger, has caused unnecessary concern and confusion among parents, students, and the wider community.

In today’s digital age, it is critical to verify information before sharing or believing it. False and misleading content can spread rapidly, causing damage to individuals, institutions, and public trust. Osei Kyeretwie Senior High remains a highly respected institution that upholds academic excellence, discipline, and student well-being. We encourage our students to remain focused on their studies and strive to become responsible and valuable citizens of Ghana.

It must be emphasized that OKESS has had many headmasters over the years, all of whom have served and eventually been transferred without incident. The Ghana Education Service (GES) has the authority to transfer staff where their expertise is most needed. Students should therefore embrace the newly appointed headmaster, who may well become a source of inspiration and guidance for them. Headmasters and teachers will come and go, but the legacy and greatness of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School—as the royal school of “Ahenemma”—will endure.
We appeal to parents, students, and the community to rely on credible sources of information and to support the school’s continuous efforts to deliver quality education. The misleading video appears to be a calculated attempt by a fake blogger and his collaborators to undermine confidence in the new headmaster and sow division within the school community. We strongly urge the Ghana Education Service to collaborate with national security authorities to investigate and hold this blogger accountable for deliberately spreading falsehoods.

It is time to protect the good name of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School and prevent its image from being tarnished in the media space. Let us work together to promote truth, integrity, and responsibility in online communications. By being mindful of the information we consume and share, we can prevent the spread of misinformation and safeguard the reputation of cherished institutions such as OKESS. Osei Kyeretwie is a royal school. We will not allow any blogger to exploit its name for cheap popularity. Long live OKESS.
