People should not overdrink & booze at Daddy Lumba’s funeral to honour him well – High Life Legend SaS B appeals to Ghanaians

Ghanaian highlife legend SAS B has made a passionate appeal with regards to the funeral of the late Daddy Lumba, stressing that mourners must resist the urge to overdrink and instead maintain decorum befitting a national icon.

SAS B’s plea speaks volumes, not just of respect for Daddy Lumba’s musical legacy, but for the broader cultural values that shape Ghanaian mourning rituals.

Speaking with Fante Quoo on Kessben FM, he urged listeners to temper celebratory impulses with sobriety, ensuring that the ceremony serves as a genuine tribute, not a boozy farewell.

While funerals in Ghana are both communal and celebratory, often spanning days and blending solemn ritual with music, dancing, and ample refreshments, excess can tarnish the reverence the occasion demands.

Despite SAS B’s warning, it’s worth recognizing the cultural tapestry that frames Ghanaian funerals.

The one-week funeral observation comes off this Saturday, 30th Aug, 2025 at the Legon Stadium in Accra.
