President Mahama Arrives in Singapore After Japan Dedicated $1.5 Billion Investment in Africa

President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Singapore for a three-day state visit, marking the second leg of his two-nation tour after a successful working visit to Japan. During his time in Japan, President Mahama participated in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX) and secured several key investment and cooperation agreements for Ghana.
Key Deals Secured in Japan
Revival of Volivo to Dorfor Adidome Bridge Project: Ghana and Japan have committed to providing additional funding for the long-awaited bridge project across the Volta River.
Kumasi Inner-City Ring Road Project: The project is set to commence soon, improving infrastructure in the city.
Toyota Expansion: A new agreement has been signed with Toyota to expand its operations in Ghana and establish the country as its hub for West Africa.
Space Cooperation Agreement: Ghana and Japan have signed a groundbreaking agreement to harness space science for national development.
Youth Training: Ghana will benefit from training 300,000 young people in areas such as artificial intelligence, modern agriculture, green transition, tech startups, and biotechnology.
Rice Production Boost: Special cooperation has been agreed upon to boost rice production in Ghana, anchored on the latest scientific research, in pursuit of national food security.
Strategic Industrialization Partnership: Japan is considering a dedicated $1.5 billion investment in Africa in the short term.

During his three-day visit to Singapore, President Mahama will:

Hold bilateral discussions with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong
The visit aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation, expand trade and investment, and advance partnerships in education, science and innovation, urban solutions, agribusiness, and the digital economy. With a high-powered delegation accompanying him, President Mahama is confident that the visit will translate shared values into practical cooperation, bringing Singaporean investment and expertise into Ghana’s priority sectors.
