The Kumasi-Accra road has become a deathtrap but our leaders always sitting idle waiting for something bad to happen before forming commitees – Fante Quoo

Fante Quoo, host of the Kessben Drive on Kessben FM, has highlighted the dangerous condition of the Kumasi-Accra road and the government’s inaction despite repeated warnings.

15 children from the Saviour Church have lost their lives in a horrific accident on the Kumasi-Accra highway.

“The Kumasi-Accra road has become a deathtrap, which, when you cross, you say you thank God a million times,” Fante Quoo said. “Our leaders are waiting for something bad to happen before they set up committees.”

The Kumasi-Accra road, which links two of Ghana’s most populous cities, has long been plagued by poor maintenance, heavy traffic, and frequent fatal accidents. Despite being a major economic artery, it remains riddled with potholes, narrow lanes, inadequate signage, and poor lighting, particularly dangerous for night-time travelers.

Fante Quoo’s comments reflect growing frustration among Ghanaians who feel the government has normalized tragedies on the roads. “Why must people die before leaders act?” he asked, echoing a question now being shouted across social media.

In the past, major accidents have triggered temporary attention and the formation of investigative committees. However, many of these committees have failed to produce results, or their recommendations have gathered dust on shelves.

What makes this latest incident especially painful is that the victims were all children, reportedly traveling from a church event. The grief-stricken families and the Saviour Church community are now left to bury their dead, young lives lost on a road that many believe could have been made safe years ago.

But until these actions are taken seriously, the Kumasi-Accra road will continue to live up to its grim reputation.

“Must we lose more before we care?” he asked, imploring leaders not to wait for another tragedy to spark the usual empty promises.
